Polystyrene (EPS) core stiff but lightweight foam provides the ideal platform for diving onto broken waves and body surfing to the beach, allows the bodyboard to offer great buoyancy and a reasonable amount of flex, perfect for first-time bodyboarders tackling their first waves. HDPE Slick: High-density polyethylene is used for the slick, or the bottom material of this bodyboard; perfect for beginners; best suited for riders who are lighter in weight so less pressure is exerted on the bodyboard; less performance-based but accessible for any skill level. Crescent Tail: Crescent tails allow for better and sharper bottom turns and help keep more of an edge in the water, crescent tails on bodyboards are always better for barrel riding due to the rear being open at the bottom allowing the bodyboard to cut through the water faster. Crescent-shaped tails are also more comfortable as the rider’s hips can lock into the tail of the board.
